Tacos, books,
and nowhere to rush.

My third Austin day: a park, breakfast tacos, coffee, books, a slice, and an evening in East Austin.

  1. MorningZilker Metropolitan Park
    Walk

Start with a beautiful walk through Zilker Metropolitan Park. No rush, no big plan. Just an easy Austin morning outside.

  2. BreakfastTaco Joint – Riverside
    Tacos

Keep walking toward Riverside and see a little more of the city along the way. Breakfast at Taco Joint is simple: breakfast tacos, Tex-Mex, homemade tortillas, and a very casual start to the day.

  3. South CongressJo’s Coffee
    Coffee

Head toward South Congress for the obligatory photo at the “I Love You So Much” mural on the side of Jo’s Coffee, then order their signature Iced Turbo. Slightly touristy, in the best possible way. Some Austin rituals are worth doing.

  4. Late morningAustin Central Library
    Books

Keep walking, grab a bike, or make it very Austin and take an autonomous ride to the Austin Central Library. Browse the books, wander through the building, then go all the way up to the Roof Garden and rooftop deck for the view over Downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake.

  5. LunchFavorite Pizza
    A slice

Stop at Favorite Pizza on West 6th Street, grab a slice, and eat it on the go. Then slowly make your way from West Sixth through Downtown toward East Sixth. Let the city change around you; there is no reason to hurry.

  6. AfternoonHeywood Hotel
    Rest

Check in at Heywood Hotel in East Austin, put your feet up, and slow down before dinner. A small, local Austin stay feels right after a day spent wandering.

  7. EveningPoeta
    Dinner

Walk over to Poeta for Italian food and a relaxed evening atmosphere. After moving around the city all day, sit down, settle in, and have a proper dinner.

  8. After dinnerEast Sixth
    Wander

No itinerary from here. Wander around East Sixth, follow whichever local bar looks interesting, have a drink or two, and enjoy East Austin at night. Eventually, walk back to Heywood Hotel.

A little walking, tacos, coffee, books, pizza, East Austin, and nowhere you really needed to rush to. Pretty close to a perfect Austin day.
